I know that many people read forums for information, feedback about doctors, hospitals, procedures etc.
Most of those people dont post but they are all out there trying to educate themselves, trying to make the best choice possible. Sometimes those choices turn out into a non ending lifetime nightmare.

The information in this post might help those who was injured in Germany while on medical tourism.

There are organizations in Germany that suppose to look after surgeons/doctors to ensure that people are not being harmed. In my limited knowledge, different parts of Germany have different organizations that overlook the above.

How I learned it: When I was in Germany, I had a pastor visiting me (I was lying in bed after my Prodisc-L implantation) and he told me that in Germany, the injured person who doesnt want to deal with court or dont have money, can use one of those organizations for an evaluation of what one thinks was incorrectly done. The evaluation is for free and its kind of part of the set up system, to make sure that people can address or simply evaluate their devastating experiences with doctors or clinics by independent professionals.

The injured in Germany person can send them (by mail) a detailed complaint and medical data with copies of reports, MRIs etc.; statements from other doctors regarding the issue etc.; and ask for an evaluation of the case. I think English is OK. Its absolutely free but it doesnt guarantee that they will look at it (if you are not a German resident), or that a doctor(s) chosen for the evaluation will not be biased in one way or another. It might take one year or more. But for some people, it might be the only hope in order to understand what took place.

For Bavarian Region the organization name is: "Gutachterstelle für Arzthaftungsfragen bie der Bayerischen Landesärztekammer" (BLÄK) (Bavarian national physician chamber).

Healthy, no history of back pain 30 y.o.
Nov. 23 2004 3 y.o. jumped on me while I was bend over and didnt expect it! Nagging low level back pain for two days.
Nov. 25 2004 Prolapse.
March 2005 MRI, DDD L4/L5, small protrusion.
May 2005 Epidural. Adverse reaction.
June 2005 Prolapse. IDET Phoenix Dr.Yeung. Worse.7 mm drilled hole. The prolapse was not removed.
Sept. 2005 Prolapse. IDET Dr. Shubert @ Alpha Klinik, Germany. The prolapse was not removed.
Jan. 2006 Undiscussed procedure on a healthy knee during intraoperative meniscus "check up". Reports from doctors that the knee was healthy and did not need an operation. The problem was-extremely weak muscles from being bed ridden for 7 months after two IDETs. The knee is ruined for life!
Sept. 2006 Prodisk ADR L4/L5, Germany Straubing Dr.Bertagnoli
12 months bed ridden. Cant sit, or stand still, or extend, or bend.
The reason for above: end state facet arthrosis at the operated level BEFORE the surgery! The segment is locked at posterior by such facets. Prodisc is too tall to compare to my natural discs.

Oct.11 2007 Revision of Prodisk to Fusion: PEEK cage with BMP + Posterior Instrumentation.

Anastasia, Those of us who were crippled and permanently injured from spine surgery appreciate all the information that is available for help and assistance, post operative. I would like to suggest to NeoN that we reserve a forum for just that purpose. We need to compile a list of global advocates to contact if you are an injured research subject and/or patient who had spine surgery with a bad outcome. From my research, I have learned that lab rats and rabbits et al have more rights and protection from medical abuse than human beings. The Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) were designed to protect subjects in research trials done in hospitals or communities with research centers. As it turns out, most if not all IRBs have financial and or professional connections to the research facility and little to no real medical knowledge about the medical procedures that they are set up to review and approve. Most are volunteers and sit on the board more as a social committee than a bona fide oversight commission. It is disgraceful the way hospitals or research centers use IRBs as their own "whitewash" mechanisms. This is why independent advocates are vital for Public Policy protection of subjects who have been abused and then buried in a labrynth of bureaucratic paperwork that covers up the facts and frustrates the media from in depth investigation. I will PM you soon to discuss some proactive solutions. PAG
